A Note on Transparency, Accountability, and How We’re Improving

If you’re reading this, it’s likely because you’ve seen or experienced feedback about Humankind that raised questions. We want to address that directly.

Humankind was built to serve a community that is often overlooked, underserved, or misunderstood by mainstream apparel brands. That responsibility matters to us. And while we are proud of what we’ve built, we also recognize that we haven’t always gotten everything right.

Some customers have had experiences that didn’t meet our standards, particularly around communication, fulfillment timing, and clarity around our policies. That’s on us.

This page exists to explain what we’ve learned, what has changed, and how we handle concerns moving forward. It is meant to sit alongside our FAQ, not replace it.

For clear policy details on shipping, returns, exchanges, sizing, and materials, please refer to our FAQ here: https://www.humankindclothing.com/pages/shipping-returns

What We’ve Learned

Over time, we’ve seen recurring feedback from customers who felt frustrated or unheard. While the situations vary, the themes were consistent:

  • When communication lagged, trust eroded quickly.

  • When policies weren’t clearly surfaced early enough, people felt misled.

  • When fit expectations didn’t align with reality, disappointment followed.

  • During high-volume periods, delays compounded these issues.

We understand how frustrating that can be, especially when you’re buying something personal and meaningful.

Listening to this feedback has been uncomfortable at times, but it has been necessary.

What Has Changed

Based on that feedback, we’ve made several concrete changes:

  • Clearer policy communication
We’ve rewritten and expanded our FAQ to clearly explain shipping timelines, returns and exchanges, fit guidance, and materials in plain language.
If you haven’t seen it recently, we encourage you to read it here:

  • Improved fit guidance
We rebuilt our Fit Guide to include clearer measurement instructions, real fit notes, and context around how our swimwear is designed to feel.

  • More transparent shipping expectations
We now distinguish between fulfillment time (when your order leaves us) and carrier delivery time, and we are more upfront about delays during launches, sales, or holidays.

  • Additional customer support coverage
We’ve invested in better support processes so questions and issues are handled more consistently and thoughtfully.

These changes don’t erase past frustration, but they are steps toward doing better.

Returns, Exchanges, and Human Judgment

Our exchange and store-credit–only policy for swimwear is explained in detail in our FAQ, including why this policy exists.

What’s important to add here is this:
Policies guide us, but they don’t replace human judgment.

If something feels unresolved or particularly complicated, we encourage you to reach out. While we can’t guarantee outcomes that fall outside our stated policies, we do review situations thoughtfully and with context.

Our goal is not to hide behind policy language, but to apply it responsibly.

Reviews, Comments, and Moderation

We’ve also heard concerns about review visibility and comment moderation.

Like most brands, we moderate for spam, harassment, and harmful content. Negative feedback itself is not something we’re trying to erase. If a review or comment doesn’t appear, it may be caught by moderation tools or require manual review.

If you believe your feedback was removed or missed in error, we want you to contact us directly so it can be looked into.

Transparency matters, and we take this feedback seriously.

Fit Expectations and Product Limits

Our swimwear is designed to feel snug, supportive, and secure. It is not a medical or full binder, and compression experience can vary widely depending on body type, proportions, and individual needs.

We know fit is personal, and we strongly encourage customers to:

  • Measure before ordering

  • Review product-specific fit notes

  • Reach out to us if unsure

Setting clear expectations upfront is better than disappointment later.

Accountability

Humankind is not a faceless company. There are real people behind it, and we care deeply about the community we serve.

If something doesn’t feel right, or you believe we missed the mark, we want to hear about it.
