Community Spotlight: Rae Eubanks

Rae (They/Them) is a multi-talented creative based in LA, who finds solace in creative connections. Born and raised in Atlanta, read how Rae feels their most authentic self and navigates their personal style through simplicity and comfort.
Tell us about yourself, who is Rae?
Hi y'all, I'm Rae! I do a little bit of everything. I work as a creative producer at a branding studio here in LA plus I'm a model, actor, and writer. I enjoy writing poetry and just started my first screenplay, I love learning new creative practices, and I throw pretty killer parties in the backyard of my little back house. Before moving to LA, I grew up in the Atlanta area, so I often sport multiple pieces of Waffle House merch, love line dancing at Stud Country, and firmly believe that camo is a neutral that you can wear everyday.

When do you feel like your most authentic self?
I feel most authentic to myself when I connect creatively with others. For me, this can be anything from watching a live performance (like E.J. Marcus's one-person show, which I highly recommend!) to making new friends at a poetry reading, or even at my job where I collaborate with graphic designers and artists every day. In these moments, where I feel really in my flow, the questions of "who am I?" tend to grow quieter and I feel more inspired, grounded, and connected to my body.

Existing as a queer person in the US is becoming increasingly more difficult. How do you remain positive in today's climate?
I'm not sure that I always remain positive, to be honest. I think that in times like this, when queer and trans people are clearly and relentlessly targeted, I tend to go inward. I focus on protecting and supporting my friends and direct community. It feels like my influence is pretty limited, especially when it comes to legislation and structural limitations, so I most often direct my energy to my close relationships with fellow queers.

What is most important to you when shopping for clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident?
Fit is really key for me. I definitely like to explore myself and my style through clothes, but as my body changes, finding what feels good can seem like a moving target. Lately, I love boxy, wide-fit, vintage tees, a pair of faded black denim Dickies, and a new (to me) pair of Doc Marten oxfords. I enjoy pieces that feel simple, comfortable, and easy to incorporate into many different types of looks.

What are your favorite products from Humankind?
While I’ll always love the compression swim top (it’s super vers), I recently got the new jacket and joggers and love that too! Now that the weather is finally changing in LA, I can see myself wearing the set on a hike or a walk to get coffee in my neighborhood.
